Twin Cities
Bristol was one of the first cities to adopt the idea of town twinning. In 1947 it was twinned with Bordeaux and then with Hanover, the first post-war twinning of British and German cities. Twinnings with Porto, Portugal (1984), Tbilisi, Georgia (1988), Puerto Morazan, Nicaragua (1989), Beira, Mozambique (1990) and Guangzhou, China (2001) have followed.
